Orisun Invest
I was interviewed by Peter Perri for the podcast #EnergySuperhero of Energy Media
Peter is an experienced investment banker active in the US supporting decarbonization projects - be it renewable, hydrogen, or other technologies - and he founded with other associates the media Energy Media, which is giving voices to CEOs and founders of the energy transition.
He contacted our executive director as he was keen on knowing more about the business model of Orisun Invest, the company he founded 3 years ago. Orisun is a pure player in project origination, focusing on solar and wind assets, with now more than 630MW closed in 3 years in 8 different countries, mostly emerging markets. And with the objective to reach the GW within the next 15 months.
This enjoyable discussion was interesting as it outlined the similarities and specificities in our respective activities.
They discussed the following questions:
What makes a good project in emerging markets?
Have we seen the returns going down in the past years?
What are the markets which we believe will be very hot in the coming 5-10 years?
What about the development fees in these markets?
What makes a good developer?
Is having "skin in the game" a must for developers?
What makes a good investor?
What are the differences between family offices, financial investors, and strategic investors?
What are the problems which we see in the transactions that we frequently must solve, and that could have been addressed during the development phase?
Â
Karim gave some examples of transactions we came across or closed in Vietnam, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burkina Faso and few other countries.
Â
Hope you will enjoy the discussion as much as we did and again a big thanks to Peter and the Energy Media team.
